My Mom's Mom

To be a mother is to be many things, all the time. It comes with highs and lows, laughter and sorrow, and an eternal burning flame of love, within the heart of both mother and child, that no ocean can extinguish. It is not an easy role to play, and it is often unforgiving in it's rawness and vulnerability. The relationship we have with our mother is the first pinprick into the vastness of every other relationship thereafter. It is her love we compare to all others for the rest of our lives, whether we know it or not. Mother brings life to the world. She is a cosmic force.

I have never had the blessing of knowing my Mom's beautiful Mother. I hear wonderful things about who she was and how much she loved my Mom, and that's all I need to know to hold her dearly in my heart.

I had the honour of painting her portrait a few years ago. It was a memorable experience. Surreal to know this amazing woman was brought my own Mom into this world. Through her own hardships and dreams, she loved a child the best she could and with everything she had. And, although her time here was short, it was no less meaningful or impactful.

Thank you to all the Mother's out there! You're love means the world to us kids.

Happy Mother's Day!!!

We love you!

The resemblance is unreal! At first glance I thought you did a self portrait. The portrait is stunning and I'm amazed at the sepia! Wow!

A mother's love really does impact us for life. We do the best with that we have and what we know and hope it is enough.
