Crossing Paths: A Storm Cloud Painting

As a self-taught artist I tend to go on varying artistic journeys to learn what I can from different mediums and references scenes. This painting was inspired by a beautiful photo that I discovered online (and I am STILL trying to find the original photospheres name). It reminds me of living on the prairies in Saskatchewan and the incredible storms that sweep through those landscapes. Those massive shelf clouds and storm cells feel so close and so alive.

I have been painting a lot portraits and decided to take a break from faces and focus on learning more about landscape and nature paintings. I am very attracted to cloud shapes, sunset colours and water. Realism in landscape paintings is an intense learning curve. What looks easy to see and replicate can really trick the eye when in contrast to its surroundings. Colours seem to change hue and there are so many layers to detail!

I am excited to learn more. I have 3 more landscape paintings on my easel at the moment. We have a ton of pictures from our travels that are just begging to be painted!

I have put up a gallery of close ups below. Enjoy!

Hugs,

Teresa
