Inspired Portraits are portraits with added elements and a more liberal interpretation of the subject. This can include an endless variety of ideas. To begin, I often rely less on exacting the reference photo and more on my own inspiration and perspective on what I see about the subject. This, in turn, often adds a more animated element. 'Within/Without' is an oil painting that was inspired by the shadow of tree branches resting across Maja's face which I transformed into a galaxy. I try not to be too heavy handed in these Inspired Portraits and just let the picture speak to me and reveal itself in its own way.

I am, of course, very open to taking the time to work with conceptual ideas and adding elements that have meaning. I still want to do more experimentation in this area and am looking for subjects to reference. Wanna be a unicorn? Haha
